Krakow Film Festival Announces Award Winners of 57th Festival Edition
The lineup of award winners of the 57th Krakow Film Festival (KFF) has been announced at the Cinema Kijów Centrum in Krakow on 3 June during the official award ceremony of this year's festival edition.
and Lisbon Docs tutor Audrius Stonys
The top-prize of the international documentary competition of the 57th KFF (Golden Horn for the Director of the Best Film) went to Pero Kvesić for his title Dum Spiro Spero. The jury was impressed by Kvesić's approach of showing both the beauty of life and love and how to find the courage to deal with one’s own mortality in a humorous and dignified way.
Two Silver Horn awards (for best medium and feature length documentary) were given to Audrius Stonys' Woman and the Glacier (Lithuania, Estonia) and Chilenean Director Lissette Orozco's Adriana's Pact. Audrius Stonys, who received the silver horn award for a unique and poetic approach to documentary filmmaking, regularly contributes as a tutor to the EDN pitching forum and workshop Lisbon Docs.
The industry part of the festival, DOCLAB Poland, featured its own awards for projects in development. The Wind – A Documentary Thriller by Michał Bielawski and EDN Member Maciej Kubicki (Telemark Sp.z o.o. | Poland) took part as a project in Lisbon Docs 2016 and won the Krakow Technology Park Award. The Krakow Film Cluster Award was given to Maciej Cuske's The Whale from Lorino, a title that participated as a project in Below Zero, an annual pitching forum co-organized by EDN in collaboration with Nordic partners.
A special mention by EDN went to the project Transfer by Joanna Rożen. EDN Director Paul Pauwels, who took part as a tutor in the DOCLAB pitch training workshop (and who selected Transfer for the special mention), said: "The line-up of projects was very strong and the choice was difficult. Transfer has, among other strengths, a co-production potential that is suitable for different markets and capable of raising interest in different regions. But I would like to express my high esteem to all the participants of DOCLAB Poland for the great work they have done over the past days". The EDN prize includes a participation of the director and producer of Transfer as an observer in Lisbon Docs 2017.
