Former EDN Director Leena Pasanen confirmed as new head of DOK Leipzig
Yesterday The Leipzig Municipal Council approved the appointment of Leena Pasanen as the next festival director of DOK Leipzig. She will start her new position on 1 January 2015.
Leena Pasanen will have a five-year contract as festival director of the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film and also serve as managing director of the municipal Leipziger Dok-Filmwochen GmbH. She succeeds Claas Danielsen, who is leaving the festival after leading it for ten years.
Pasanen is the first non-German festival director in the almost 60-year history of the festival. She currently directs the Finnagora cultural institute at the Finnish Embassy in Budapest. Pasanen has a background at the Finnish public broadcaster YLE, where she was responsible for documentaries on YLE 1 and later led the cultural and documentary programming division of the special-interest channel YLE Teema.
From 2005 to 2008 Leena Pasanen was the Director of EDN. From EDN we would like to congratulate Leena with her new position as festival director and wish her good luck with her new duties.
