Meet the EDN Board Member Candidates

New board members will be presented at the next General Assembly

As part of the upcoming EDN General Assembly on 24 November during IDFA in Amsterdam, we will be presenting a number of candidates who stand for election to become members of the EDN board.

Below you will find the profiles of candidates that have indicated an interest to become part of the EDN board. The candidates will be presented and elected during the G.A. according to point no. 11 on the agenda.

 

David Hooper

David Hooper is founder of Espresso TV, an independent production house developing documentaries and factual Entertainment programming with an experienced Freelance TV producer / director – Tim Graham. The company was set up in 1992 with the aim to enter the international marketplace and open up related production possibilities. From 1995 to 1999, David worked as senior producer at Eurochampions in London, a US start up TV sports programming company delivering up to 3 hours of sports news, documentaries and events in three languages every day for Latin American & Hispanic North American market. From 2000 up to today, David has been running Espresso TV Limited (branded as Espresso Media International) as Managing Director, International TV distributor, EP & Producer. Producers are now at around 50% from the UK and 50% from outside of the UK. Espresso Media International has also expanded the content to include lifestyle and music programming. Many of the documentaries are award winning films and the Producers range from first timers to very experienced Producer / Directors or Production Houses. Espresso has been growing at around 30% per annum.


Margje de Koning

After finishing her studies, Margje de Koning made all sorts of documentaries for many different broadcasting companies for 12 years. In 2004 Margje de Koning became a part time teacher at the Culture & Media studies (department Film& Television at the University of Amsterdam). In August 2004, Margje de Koning became Commissioning Editor for a documentary slot of 52’ docs. This meant producing and co-producing creative single 52'-documentaries. Since January 2005 Margje de Koning has been responsible for the Television Department of IKON and on January 2012 she became Head of TV, Radio and New Media programming at IKON. From January 2016 IKON has been incorporated within EO with Margje de Koning as Commissioning Editor Documentaries for EO, JDocs and IKONdocs. She has recently taken up the position of artistic director at Movies that Matter, a renowned film festival in the Netherlands.


Daniela Praher

Daniela Praher studied journalism, film sciences & audiovisual media design at the University of Vienna & the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Among others, she has been working in the production department at PRISMA Film, DOR Film, Lotus Film and Ruth Beckermann Film. 2011 she founded Praherfilm, a Vienna-based company that produces documentaries and fiction on an international level. The filmography includes award winning titles such as "Private Revolutions - Young, Female, Egyptian" (Austria 2014, Documentary, 98 min & 52 min, Dir: A. Schneider) and "Sweat" (Austria 2014, Feature, 30 min, Dir: Iris Blauensteiner). Daniela Praher is a board member of dok.at - Association of Austrian Documentary Filmmakers & FC Gloria - Women, Networking, Film.


Ruth Berry

A multi-talented filmmaker, Ruth’s passion lies with science and natural history documentaries. Writing the ROMY®2018 award-winning series THE LIONS RULE (also winner Best Story at Green Screen and nominated Wildscreen 2018), Ruth is one of the most dedicated storytellers of the present, always looking to connect with and immerse her audience to create a memorable experience. Ruth’s most recent film CUTE LITTLE KILLERS was nominated for best Writing at Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival 2019. She works as a concept adviser and trainer for Europe’s premier training organization for film producers, Documentary Campus. Ruth also consults for Terra Mater Factual Studios. Her films have appeared on major broadcast networks including National Geographic, BBC, Discovery, ABC, PBS, ARTE and CBC, NDR, ARTE France. She is also a published natural history illustrator and an experienced moderator.
