Fund for female directors open for submission

The Indian Documentary Foundation and Chicken and Egg Pictures have announced the call for proposals for its first round of grant funding for female documentary makers. The call will close on November 21, 2014.

This new fund will support two female filmmakers from India with grants to the value of $10,000. The fund will offer a combination of cash and in-kind services, such as editing, post production and sound mixing.

Funding is provided for films that tackle human rights, social justice, and environmental issues in a nuanced, original, and compelling way. Preferred are powerful stories and filmmakers who are committed to working in tandem with social movements. The fund will support documentary films aimed at widespread distribution on television, VOD and theatrical release.

The granted filmmakers will also have a chance to attend one major North American market, where they will receive one-to-one mentoring from the Chicken and Egg team.

To apply you can be a mid-career filmmaker or a first time director, but films from student filmmakers are not accepted.  To qualify you will need to demonstrate that you have an office or place of work registered in India.

The decisions on the grants will be taken early in 2015, with applicants being notified before the end of January.

This new grant for Indian female documentary filmmakers sponsored by the Indian Documentary Foundation and Chicken & Egg Pictures. The Indian Documentary Foundation will manage the call and selection process in partnership with Chicken & Egg Pictures.

The criteria and further information is available at the IDF website.
