  • The Guardians
  • In the tiny indigenous village of Donaciano Ojeda in Michoacan, Mexico, is located a monarch butterfly sanctuary. Monach butterflies come here from Canada to hibernate for the winter. This forest is vital for their survival and the branches of the oyamel tree become draped in the orange and black wings of thousands of butterflies. The trees are being illegally logged and were nearly destroyed, but the people of Donaciano Ojeda have turned from logging to growing avocados and raising trout in order to salvage the precious trees, which they now fiercely protect. The Guardians is about an indigenous community and its connection an ancient forest and its butterflies
