The BFI Film Fund launched a separate scheme for documentary-only production funding for the first time in 2013. Projects are selected for two yearly-pitching sessions – Sheffield Doc/Fest in June and London in December.

To apply the film needs to qualify as a British film. This implies a list of criteria, a.o. if the project is set in the UK, is based on British subject matter, language, British cultural heritage etc.
OTHER FUNDS THAT FUNDED CO-PRODUCTIONS
Out of the 5 regional funds Creative England, Creative Scotland, Northern Ireland Screen, Screen Yorkshire and Film Agency Wales, only the latter has supported co-productions with a foreign majority producer. The support in 2015 was for an Irish production with a total funding of 120.000 Euro.
