Senior Programmer Martijn te Pas to Leave IDFA
After 20 years with IDFA, Senior Programmer Martijn te Pas will leave the festival in December 2019. He will still participate in the next edition of IDFA and remain part of the IDFA team until early December, but shortly afterwards his work will focus on a new project in Stockholm, Sweden.
IDFA has announced the departure of Martijn te Pas in a news release yesterday, while highlighting the impact of his important contributions over the past two decades: "Martijn’s brilliant programming has played an indispensable role in IDFA’s vision, unwaveringly contributing to the organization it is today. In particular, Martijn worked extensively with music documentaries and our Dutch documentary competition, two long-standing pillars of the IDFA film program. Several focus programs also stand out among Martijn’s accomplishments. In 2016, he curated The Quiet Eye, including two screenings accompanied by a live score which proved to be nothing short of magical".
Among Martijn’s biggest accomplishments is undoubtedly his humbling connection with countless filmmakers and colleagues around the world. Many of those who have worked with Martijn to this day consider him a close friend, often going beyond the bounds of a typical working relationship. Likewise, Martijn has a knack for warming the hearts of those he meets for the first time, and leaving a lasting impression.
The IDFA team expressed its sincere gratitude for Martijn's contributions and further stressed the fact that the entire staff will miss his warm presence at the office and his inspiring passion for documentary cinema. Martijn will continue to work from abroad and will remain part of the IDFA team until December 1st, 2019. He will also participate in the next festival edition in November, where well-wishers will be able to give him a proper send off in person.
The official announcement and news release can be found on the IDFA website here.
