Open Position for Senior Lecturer in Design (Film) at The University of Edinburgh

The School of Design at the Edinburgh College of Art department is looking to appoint a full-time Senior Lecturer in Film from July 2018. The position requires previous experience with teaching documentary directing, producing and editing, as the class will have a certain focus on contemporary industry practice. The applicant should therefore evidence and demonstrate knowledge with documentary film production in an international context and an expertise in Film and TV.

The position of Senior Lecturer in Design (Film) will necessitate “preparing, scheduling and delivering courses, including lectures, workshops, seminars, tutorials, supporting course administration, and the setting and assessing of assignments.” Moreover it will be expected to contribute to existing research practice within the College of Art department in addition to creating a personal research portfolio of films, screening and grants.

As Senior Lecturer in Film, the main job purpose is to contribute to research and knowledge within the national and international Documentary Film field, first and foremost by teaching and supervising postgraduate and PhD candidates. The position entails working within a dynamic team and being able to engage students with clear communication practices.

The Edinburgh College of Art emphasizes the vitality of the post-holder being enthusiastic and pro-active while teaching at a high academic level. It will be expected to provide a sufficient proven track record of previous experience in documentary production as the post-holder will assist students in all aspects of documentary making. Candidates will preferably also have in-depth knowledge with creative uses of cinematography and a strong research practice in documentary film.
