Looking Back at Sunny Side of the Doc 2019
As every year, EDN has once again been hosting the EDN Umbrella Stand at Sunny Side of the Doc during this year's 30th edition of the documentary market in La Rochelle. For many documentary professionals, including film makers, sales agents, distributors and broadcasters, the event provided lots of networking opportunities and the chance to collaborate on projects, acquire finished films or engage in new partnerships.
Looking back at Sunny Side of the Doc last week, EDN interim director Flore Deroose said, "Sunny Side of the Doc was a great occasion for me to reach out to the documentary community regarding our recent development and to explain how EDN is in the process of rebooting and reflection. It was extremely valuable to sit together with different professionals at the EDN networking dinner and to listen to suggestions on the role of EDN, now and in future, as an association for documentary professionals from Europe and across the globe. It was also important to share, on a more personal level, the challenges EDN has faced over the past six months and we really appreciated the positive feedback."
The EDN staff, in collaboration with the Sunny Side team, has once again organized the EDN Umbrella Stand in La Rochelle, allowing doc professionals to have a space in the market area with plenty of opportunities to network with the many decision makers that came to Sunny Side this year. In addition to the EDN Networking Dinner, where EDN members met in a nice and relaxed atmosphere in downtown La Rochelle, there was also an opportunity for all market visitors to connect during the EDN Cocktail on Wednesday evening (which was a welcome refreshment after the tropical temperatures that day, also see these pictures for some impressions from the stand).
"We were also happy to have had the chance to accompany the members of the Nordic Delegation and organize a couple of sessions to get more familiar with the documentary sector in France. I would like to thank Christian Popp (Yuzu Productions) for his introduction to the French production landscape as well as Robert Salvestrin (Lucky You) for insights on the work of French distributors and sales agents", as Flore Deroose points out. "We also had the pleasure to have ARTE's Suzanne Biermann providing an inspiring overview of ARTE's Universe of coproductions and pre-buys. We would like to thank you for having been at our stand, your contribution was highly appreciated by everyone involved."
