#InfluencingBrexit — Help Make the UK Stay Part of Creative Europe
EDN - European Documentary Network is currently running a campaign aimed at making the UK stay part of the Creative Europe programme. We're now calling filmmakers and all professionals working in the creative sector to add their name to the ongoing campaign. The signatures collected through this initiative will be used to strengthen the position of the creative sector in the UK in negotiations on whether the UK support through Creative Europe will continue after Brexit.
With negotiations between the UK government and the EU at a critical and uncertain stage and with Britain’s withdrawal from the EU now only months away, EDN members in the UK are calling on the Government to make good its commitment for Britain to remain part of the EU’s Creative Europe Programme after Brexit. The prospect of “No Deal” under which Britain would crash out of the EU could mean an abrupt end to a programme which has brought jobs, essential funding and creative opportunities to the documentary sector.
Andy Glynne, EDN chairman and Director/Producer at Mosaic Films, said in a statement: “With all the current headlines about a ‘no-deal’ Brexit, the future of the creative industries in the UK looks more and more uncertain. The ‘worst case scenarios’ have gone from being hypothetical to becoming increasingly possible. Crashing out of Creative Europe would mean we in documentaries stand to lose a lot in the UK. And we also think that our partners across Europe will suffer too if they lose the partnerships, collaborations and co-productions which we have brought to each other as well as the creative ‘gestalt’ that has always made our members’ pan-European projects much greater than the sum of their parts. The UK’s musical stars led by Bob Geldorf have denounced the silencing of the music industry inside a “self-built cultural jail” if Britain crashes out of the EU. We in documentaries must now add our voice to call for Britain to remain inside the EU’s Creative Europe programme. Please sign our petition!”
