I Am the People win two major awards at Jihlava
Yesterday, on Monday October 27, the awards ceremony for the 18th Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival took place. Awards were presented to both international and national Czech documentaries.
In the international competition, the main prize went to the French film I Am the People (Je suis le peuple) by director Anna Roussillon. In line with festival tradition, the jury consisted of one person. This year it was leading Serbian director Želimir Žilnik.
A special mention went to Chasing After the Wind (Persiguiendo al Dragón) by Juan Camilo Olmos Feris.
In the new section for best debut film, I Am the People also became the award winner. In this category the film was selected by a five-member jury.
In the competition for documentaries from Central and Eastern Europe, the jury selected Hubert Sauper’s We Come as Friends.
The award for the best Czech documentary went to Martin Dušek for his film Into the Clouds We Gaze. In this category a special mention went to Martina Malinová’s Lets Block.
The award for Contribution to World Cinema went to American director Godfrey Reggio.
The audience award went to Veronika Lišková’s film Daniel’s World.
