Head of Documentaries Ingrid Falck to Leave Al Jazeera English

20.07.2017

Ingrid Falck, Manager of Documentaries at Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera English, will leave the Channel at the end of July after 9 years at AJE, for family reasons. Until further notice, Bilaal Hoosein will be the Acting Manager of Documentaries.

Following her decision to return to the UK, Al Jazeera's Ingrid Falck will hand over the management of the broadcaster's Documentary unit to interim manager Bilaal Hoosein. During this time, Hoosein will continue fulfilling his current role as Executive Producer of Acquisitions. The current commissioning Executive Producers, for Witness (Fiona Lawson-Baker) and the stand-alone docs (Farid Barsoum), will continue in their roles.

Ingrid Falck has been a contributor to EDN activities on behalf of Al Jazeera in the past (eg. Lisbon Docs, Docs in Thessaloniki, EDN events at IDFA). As decision maker and panelist, she has scouted new documentary talent and identified compelling stories for development, to reach wide audiences in the international market. The collaboration with the Al Jazeera English staff, who are EDN Associate Members, has a long tradition and spans a variety of different activities aimed at promoting and supporting documentary talent around the world.

Ingrid Falck commented: “While I am very sad indeed to be leaving this extraordinary Channel, I am deeply proud of the team that makes up the AJE Documentaries unit, which accounts for nearly a quarter of the Channel’s output. Our execs, commissioners, buyers and producers all work passionately to bring the best global documentaries to our international audiences - and especially to air stories, voices and perspectives that are seldom heard elsewhere. They’ll continue their remarkable work and I’ll certainly remain in close contact with them as I return to London and the freelance world.”

The change of management within the Documentary unit at Al Jazeera English will be included in the next printed edition of the EDN Financing Guide and made available in the online version of the guide as soon as possible.
