American Documentary Film Festival - AmDocs

Submission deadline: 13/10 – 2019. Festival: March 27 – 31, 2020
AmDocs' main objective is to promote a world vision of film as seen through the eyes of the filmmaker in order to educate and entertain the film goer. In conjunction with the Palm Springs Cultural Center, the Festival is a non-profit organization. Long the brainchild of local resident Teddy Grouya, the Festival was established to encourage the development of the cultural arts in the Coachella Valley with a specific focus in the areas of film, fine art, live performance, dance, music, and the cultural arts.

Visions du Réel

Submission deadline: 14/10 – 2019. Festival: April 24 – May 02, 2020
Visions du Réel is one of the only Swiss film festivals to present a majority of its films as world or international premieres. It also offers the unique opportunity to meet the film directors, which are present at each first screening of the films. The Festival is also a stepping stone for new talent. The prestigious Oscars and the European Film Awards academies have opened their doors to films screened at Visions du Réel. Alongside a very varied programme, the Festival also offers masterclasses, debates with film directors, meetings with professionals and many cultural mediation activities. The Festival also has a film market with Industry activities, one of the most important in Europe. Visons du Réel's Industry selects and promotes films at every stage of their development and offers a key networking platform for professionals from all around the world.

International Film Festival Rotterdam

Late submission deadline: 15/10 – 2019. Festival: January 21 – February 2, 2020
International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) is an annual film festival held in various cinemas in Rotterdam, Netherlands. International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) offers a high quality line-up of carefully selected fiction and documentary feature films, short films and media art. The festival's focus is on recent work by talented new filmmakers. However, within the four sections the Festival presents, there is also room for retrospectives and themed programmes. IFFR actively supports new and adventurous filmmaking talent through its co-production market CineMart, its Hubert Bals FundRotterdam Lab and other industry activities.

SXSW – South by Southwest Film Festival and Conference

Late submission deadline: 17/10 – 2019. Festival: March 13 –22, 2020

The SXSW Film Festival celebrates emerging talent from both behind and in front of the camera. Featuring provocative dramas, documentaries, comedies, genre standouts, and more, the festival has become known for the high caliber and diversity of films presented, and for its smart, enthusiastic audiences. SXSW attracts a broad, adventurous audience of press, filmmakers, industry leaders and die-hard fans alike - while tackling the evolution of all aspects of “film”, and how that definition is shifting.

Glasgow Film Festival

Late submission deadline: 25/010 – 2019. Festival: February 26 – March 8, 2020
Glasgow Film Festival (GFF) is one of the top film festivals in the UK with a focus on audiences and renowned for an international programme of the world’s best films alongside a dynamic fusion of cross-sector events and artistic commissions. Glasgow Film Festival strives to employ a wide array of diversity and representation and it actively welcomes submissions from varied ethnicities and marginalised voices as well as seeks to achieve parity in regards to the gender balance within its programme.

Year round Glasgow Film prioritises the inclusion of captioned and audio described screenings to enable people who are D/deaf and visually impaired to access and enjoy the cinematic experience. With this in mind, Glasgow Film Festival welcomes submissions that already include or can include audio described and/or captioned formats on DCP.

Tribeca Film Festival

Submission deadline: 30/10 – 2019. Festival: April 15 –26, 2020
The Tribeca Film Festival helps filmmakers reach the broadest possible audience, enabling the international film community and general public to experience the power of cinema and promote New York City as a major filmmaking center. It is well known for being a diverse international film festival that supports emerging and established directors. Founded by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff in 2001 following the attacks on the World Trade Center, to spur the economic and cultural revitalization of the lower Manhattan district through an annual celebration of film, music and culture, the Festival brings the industry and community together around storytelling.

Athens International Film Festival

Late submission deadline: 01/11 – 2019. Festival: April 06 –12, 2020

Athens International Film Festivals intention, is to highlighting lesser-known aspects/genres of independent cinema, introducing audiences to some of the best productions of the year and establishing itself as the ideal opening of the upcoming movie season. The Festival was launched in September 1995 and continues successfully until now.
