Festival Deadlines in March 2020

Filmmakers whose projects are ready for competition can submit their films to the following festivals with deadlines in March: Edinburgh Short Film Festival, Boston Short Film Festival, International Film Festival Marseille, Melbourne International Film Festival and River Film Festival. Edinburgh Short Film Festival

Submission deadline: 22/3 – 2020. Festival: October 22 – November 8, 2020
The Edinburgh Short Film Festival became independent from the Leith Festival in 2009, since then its been showcasing the best of international and local short film making as ESFF. The annually held festival features a number of events in eclectic venues across the city of Edinburgh. The festival was founded by a small group of local filmmakers and film enthusiasts and is run by the same team with the help of volunteers and interns.

Boston Short Film Festival

Submission deadline: 27/3 – 2020. Festival: July 13 – 17, 2020
BSFF believes in short films! Recognizing the important role shorts have in cinema, storytelling, and culture, BSFF wants to help empower the next generation of artists. The Boston Short Film Festival is an annual event showcasing shorts films with an edge. The BSFF focuses on the unconventional, the unusual, the underground, the intuitive, the innovative, the minimalistic and the true artists of our time. Based in Boston/Somerville (MA, US) the festival aims to screen up to 100 short films. All screenings will take place in the MicroCinema theatre at the Somerville Theatre.

International Film Festival Marseille

Submission deadline: 31/3 – 2020. Festival: July 7 – 13, 2020
Every year in early July, the FIDMarseille —Marseille International Film Festival— directed by Jean-Pierre Rehm, proposes a programme of 150 films to approximately 25,000 spectators, in cinemas, theaters, libraries, art galleries, and in open-air amphitheaters throughout the city. The festival presents a large number of films in their world premiere as well as first films. Today, the FIDMarseille is recognized as a source of new cinemas, both documentary productions as well as fiction films.

Melbourne International Film Festival

Submission deadline: 31/3 – 2020. Festival: August 6 – 23, 2020
MIFF is a not-for-profit organisation that has been continuously running since 1952, making it the leading film festival in Australia and one of the world’s oldest film festivals, alongside Cannes and Berlin. Presenting a curated global program of innovative screen experiences and the world’s largest showcase of exceptional Australian filmmaking, MIFF is an accessible, iconic cultural event that provides transformative experiences for audiences and filmmakers alike.

River Film Festival

Submission deadline: 31/3 – 2020. Festival: June 1 –30, 2020
The Portello River Festival is an international festival of shorts (fiction and animation) and documentaries, and is held in Padova. It is organized by the Assocazione Culturale Researching Movie and is sponsored by the Comune di Padova Assessorato alla Cultural.
