Festival Deadlines in July 2019


Prepare your festival strategy with our monthly overview of upcoming festival deadlines! Filmmakers whose projects are ready for competition can submit their films to the following festivals with deadlines in July: DOK Leipzig, Slamdance Film festival, Viennale - Vienna International Film Festival, Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival, Warsaw Film Festival and many more. DOK Leipzig - Int. Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animation Film

Submission deadline: 7/7 – 2019. Festival: October 28 – November 3, 2019
The Leipzig DOK festival accepts documentaries, animated films and animated documentaries of all lengths as well as interactive works. The festival is looking for strong artistic handwriting, intriguing points of view and works that bring their genres to the next level. The submitted film may be nominated for one of the festival’s six prestigious competitions and several special awards with a total prize money of up to 75,000 euros. Additionally, DOK Leipzig is a qualifying festival for both, the ACADEMY AWARDS© and the European Film Awards.

Slamdance Film Festival

Submission deadline: 29/7 – 2019. Festival: January 24 – 30, 2019
Slamdance is dedicated to new filmmakers. It accepts films on any topic from every country. The festival accepts films in the following genres: Narrative Features, Documentary Features, Narrative Shorts, Animated Shorts, Documentary Shorts, and Special Screenings. The mission of the festival is to bring attention to the most talented emerging filmmakers, showcasing their work in the media frenzy of festival week in Park City.

Viennale - Vienna International Film Festival

Submission deadline: 31/7 – 2018. Festival: October 24 – November 6, 2019
The Viennale takes place every October with approximately 92,000 visitors.

The program include 300 films from all over the world, which offer a cross-section of bold film-making which stands apart from the aesthetics of mainstream conventionality and is politically relevant. The genres include documentary films, international short films, as well as experimental works and crossover films.

The Viennale has a large-scale retrospective on relevant aspects of film history it organizes every year in collaboration with the Austrian Film museum.

Gala screenings, special events and parties are as much part of the festival as interviews, audience discussions.

Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival

Submission deadline: 31/7 – 2019. Festival: October 24 - 29, 2019
The Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival is the largest festival of creative documentary films in Central and Eastern Europe. Every year, the festival programme selects winners in the international competition (Opus Bonum), the most remarkable Central and Eastern European documentaries (Between the Seas), the best Czech documentaries (Czech Joy), the best experimental documentaries (Fascinations), the best short docs (Short Joy), the most remarkable documentary debuts (First Lights), and the best Czech experimental documentary films (Fascinations:

Warsaw Film Festival

Submission deadline: 31/7 – 2019. Festival: October 11 - 20, 2019
Established in 1985, the Warsaw Film Festival joined in 2009 the elite group of events recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations. WIFF is organized by the Warsaw Film Foundation. Its aim is to present quality films from all over the world to Polish and international audience. Special attention is paid to new directors and their works and to films from Central and Eastern Europe.

The competitive sections include international features, independent features and documentaries, international documentaries and short films. There are also several non-competitive sections.
