EDN Invites Documentary Professionals to Participate in Online Survey
As part of the "Media and Society" initiative, EDN has published an online questionnaire and invites documentary professionals from all parts of the world to participate in a survey which is essential for capturing the current state of the documentary sector. The aim of the initiative is to use the survey results and other input from documentary professionals to draft a White Book with recommendations for a sustainable future of the documentary sector.
The European documentary sector faces numerous challenges and urgently needs a policy for the future that can be implemented on a regional, national and international level. The "Media and Society" initiative is designed to achieve this goal by gathering relevant data and involving producers, filmmakers and other stakeholders into the project with the aim of providing an accurate overview of the current state of the documentary industry — including its challenges, risks, opportunities and recomendations for an economically feasible future.
The input provided by documentary professionals through this survey will allow academic researchers to analyse the current state of the European documentary sector and provide arguments which can be used in forthcoming negotiations with the powers-that-be. The survey is being made available to a wide range of professional stakeholders and aims to gain insights from various perspectives that will lead to a fruitful dialogue with decision-makers both inside and outside our community.
The initiative's overall objective is to publish a policy document, or 'White Book', that will set out clear recommendations for the future of the documentary sector. The final document will be presented in November 2018 at the International Documentary Film Festival (IDFA) in Amsterdam.
