Baltic Sea Forum Announces 2015 Selections
Following the evaluation of documentary projects submitted to the 19th Baltic Sea Forum for Documentaries (BSD), the organizers have now announced the selection of participating projects. 25 documentary projects from 13 countries will take part in this year's edition of the forum which is organized by the National Film Centre of Latvia.
From 2-6 September 2015, documentary filmmakers from the Baltic countries, Central Europe as well as Georgia, Russia and Ukraine will come to Riga, Latvia, for this year's edition of BSD (see complete list of selected projects).
During BSD 2015, Commissioning editors and sales agents will have the opportunity to get introduced to projects from a great diversity of countries, covering various themes – from current affairs , society, history as well as culture and art. Among the featured topics are global immigration problems, the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, investigations on Oleg Sentsov’s arrest in Crimea, the life of the Russian speaking population in the Baltics, Baltic Sea ecology problems and many more.
This year's BSD includes a preparation workshop as well as pitching sessions for representatives of the selected projects. The forum will also feature an open workshop focusing on documentaries in the era of new technologies and screenings of documentary films to the general public.
During the preparation workshop from 2-4 September 2015, film producers and directors will improve their projects under the guidance of a team of international tutors consisting of Mikael Opstrup (Head of Training, European Documentary Network, Denmark), Tue Steen Müller (documentary film consultant, Denmark) and Hanka Kastelicová (HBO Europe, Hungary). Additionally, film editor Phil Jandaly (Sweden) will consult the participants on the trailers of their projects.
The public pitching sessions will take place from 5-6 September accompanied by decision makers from the following organizations who have already confirmed their participation: ARTE (France), Autlook Filmsales (Austria), ERR (Estonia), First Hand Films (Switzerland), HRT (Croatia), ARD/MDR (Germany), Taskovski Films (UK), YLE (Finland), etc.
BSD is organized by the National Film Centre of Latvia in close collaboration with the European Documentary Network. BSD is financially supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, the Creative Europe Media Sub-Programme as well as the co-operation platform Baltic Films.
