EDN Congratulates! Awards and Recognition for EDN Workshop Projects

EDN congratulates! is a series of news stories where we congratulate documentary teams from EDN workshops when they have achieved great results. In this edition of EDN congratulates! we are delighted to announce that three EDN workshop projects gained recognition through awards and premieres at key industry events.

Still from The Mission directed by Tania Moilanen

Keeping track of how projects and finished films are doing is of great importance not only to filmmakers but also to the European Documentary Network, especially when projects have been developed or pitched at EDN forums and workshops. Therefore we are delighted to announce that two projects have received awards at this year's edition of Visions du Réel and another project had its world premiere as part of the official selection for Sheffield Doc/Fest 2020. The projects were previously co-developed at the EDN initiatives Docs in Thessaloniki and Lisbon Docs.

The Miracle of Almeria | Visions de Reel — DAE Encouragement Award

Participated in: EDN Pitching Forum Docs in Thessaloniki

Directors: Moon Blaisse, Thomas Bellinck | Producer: Emmy Oost | Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland

Synopsis/Excerpt/Logline: The legal and illegalized inhabitants of Almería, the largest vegetable patch of Europe, collaborate on reinventing a common future, as European political decision making fails to do so. The Miracle of Almería is a film by Moon Blaisse and Thomas Bellinck and a production of Cassette for timescapes, in co-production with Iota Production and Baldr Film.

Our Land, Our Altar | World Premiere — Selected for Sheffield Doc/Fest 2020

Participated in: EDN Pitching Forum Lisbon Docs

Director: André Guiomar | Producers: Mafalda Rebelo, André Guiomar, Dinis Henriques, Miguel da Santa, Luis Costa | Portugal

Synopsis/Excerpt/Logline: Aleixo, a neighbourhood in Porto, is inhabited by low income communities and workers, and is known as a drug centre. Sitting in one of the most beautiful hills overlooking the river, the neighbourhood became a target of both political and economical powers, and its demolition became unavoidable. This film portrays a community on the verge of being dispersed, ripped from their houses and sense of belonging. It mourns a way of life, and class identity, while depicting the inhabitants’ dignity and force to carry on.

The EDN team would like to congratulate the above mentioned project teams on their success and the recognition of their work.
