The documentary world offers a whole variety of different workshops, pitching sessions and other doc industry events but it's sometimes challenging to keep track of all the dates and submission deadlines. That's why we provide a regular overview of documentary events that have a deadline to meet in the coming weeks. Hot Docs Forum
Deadline: 7/1 - 2019. Event date: May 1 – 2, 2019
The Hot Docs Forum is a dynamic pitching event that stimulates international co-production financing. Taking place over two days, pre-selected international projects are presented to a round table of leading commissioning editors, film fund representatives, financiers, programming executives and delegates from around the globe. Selected documentary producers publicly pitch their projects to over 200 key international broadcasters and financiers from around the world, and to a gallery of accredited delegates.
Doc Nomads 2019-2021

The DOC NOMADS Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) in Documentary Filmmaking is a two-year, full time, international graduate program (120 ECTS) delivered by a consortium of three prominent European universities across three countries: Portugal, Hungary and Belgium. DocNomads is the first joint master in Europe in the field of FILM that was granted the right to use the Erasmus Mundus brand name and the grant support of the European Commission for the first five editions. This backing was granted again for the course editions in the period of 2017-2022. About twenty-four students from all around the world follow a mobility track from Lisbon to Brussels, via Budapest.
Agora Doc Market
Deadline: 14/1 - 2019. Event dates: March 2 – 9, 2019
The market’s primary goal is to sell the rights of documentaries to TV channels, distribution to film theatres and promotion to other Festivals. The Doc Market functions mainly as a bridge, connecting the cinematic product to the powerful medium of television. In addition, the support and promotion of Greek documentaries to nearby or faraway destinations is number one on our list of priorities. Each year the Doc Market hosts around 500 films and more than 100 buyers and industry professionals select to visit Thessaloniki to promote or buy documentary films. The Doc Market is fully digital with 30 available booths. Every year 25% approximately, of the total number of films is sold through the Doc Market.
Creative Europe – Support to Sales Agents & Distribution of non-national Films 2019

The purpose of distribution of non-national Films is to develop pan-European distribution strategies for non-national European films, increase investment in promotion and distribution of non-national European films and to develop links between the production and distribution sector thus improving the competitive position of non-national European films. The purpose of support to sales agents is to support the distribution of non-national European films, through cinemas and other platforms, by providing funds to sales agents, based on their performance on the market, for further reinvestment in new non-national European films and to support development of links between the production and distribution sectors.

MeetMarket at Sheffield Doc/Fest, is one of the world’s largest documentary and factual markets and pitching forums. Selected projects will have the opportunity to meet with top Decision Makers among 300+ international funders, broadcasters, distributors and exhibitors. The MeetMarket offers a unique way to pitch your project through carefully matchmade meetings between pitchers and Decision Makers, for creative and financial discussions.The MeetMarket is open to all documentary makers, local and international, and we welcome submissions from established, emerging as well as first-time filmmakers. Projects can be in any form ranging from long form to series and formats.

dok.incubator is a six–months mentorship programme focusing on the professional development of filmmakers and offering participants access to internationally experienced tutors for developing their films and testing new ideas in terms of storytelling. Eight teams, each consisting of a producer, director and editor will optimize the film's focus and storytelling, taking into account that there are always multiple ways of telling great stories. (...) Intensive editing, distribution and audience building will turn rough-cut projects into high-end films that attract worldwide interest. 1st Session (Rough Cut): April (Czech Republic). 2nd Session (Fine Cut): June (Slovakia). 3rd Session (Presentation): September, Malmö (Sweden).
The Whickers - Funding Award
Deadline: 31/1 - 2019. Event dates: -
The Film and TV Funding Award is awarded annually to an emerging filmmaker from anywhere in the world with the most promising pitch for a director-led documentary which fulfills the core criteria detailed below. With a main award worth £80,000 and a runner-up contribution of £15,000, The Whickers Film and TV Funding Award is one of the most significant documentary awards in the world.
