Baltic Sea Forum for Documentaries: Call for Submissions

The Baltic Sea Forum for Documentaries is a co-financing forum for international documentary projects consisting of an annual pitching session combined with a workshop and film screenings. It is aimed at documentary films produced in the Baltic and surrounding countries or productions with a subject related to the region. The deadline for applying is 7 June 2016.

The National Film Centre of Latvia in collaboration with European Documentary Network organises the 20th Baltic Sea Forum for Documentaries. The aim of the Forum is to create a platform where documentary producers pitch their latest projects to a number of commissioning editors from the Baltic, Russian and European television channels, international film distributors, sales agents and institutions.

In previous editions, Baltic Sea Docs featured - among others - decision makers from ARTE G.E.I.E (France), ARD/MDR (Germany), YLE (Finland), BBC Storyville (UK), LRT (Lithuania), ERR (Estonia), LTV (Latvia) and many others.

Who can participate in this initiative?
You can apply, if you represent one of the following:
- Independent production companies from the wider Baltic Sea Region countries (Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Sweden)
- Independent production companies from developing democracies of the former Soviet Union

- Independent production companies from other countries of the former Eastern Bloc (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Hungary, Romania)
- Independent production companies from other European countries if the documentary subject relates to the wider Baltic Sea Region.

Producers may also attend the Forum as observers without pitching a project.

What kind of projects?

Producers may enter up to 3 projects each. Apart from traditional documentaries the BSD also provides a platform for cross media projects and documentary animations. One project may be sent in for selection up to 3 times. Projects pitched in previous editions are not eligible. Priority is given to projects having some financial commitment from broadcasters or film institutions. Projects by first time filmmakers are also eligible.
