The documentary world offers a whole variety of different workshops, pitching sessions and other doc industry events but it's sometimes challenging to keep track of all the dates and submission deadlines. That's why we provide a regular overview of documentary events that have a deadline to meet in the coming weeks. SIMA Awards 2020

SIMA is looking for original, wise, brave, eye-opening and creative productions that increase the awareness of viewers to local and global issues, to the resilience of humans facing deprivation, to the politics and movements of human rights, environmental and social justice, and to efforts and agents of change worldwide. They seek productions that raise important questions about the state of our contemporary world, and inspire people to reflect on the meaning and potential of social activism and social transformation.
Croatian Minority Co-production Support Scheme
Deadline: 15/10 - 2019. Event dates: -
Minority Croatian co-productions are considered to be those co-productions in which the Croatian producer’s financing share comprises at least 10% of the total production budget (including subsidies received from the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, producer’s own investment, deferrals, investment from television, television broadcasting rights, distribution deals, in-kind investments, etc.) and which can eventually qualify as an official co-production under the European Convention on Cinematographic Co-production and/or any bilateral co-production treaties in force between Croatia and other countries. Deadline 4 times a year.
Leipzig Networking Days
Deadline: 17/10 - 2019. Event dates: November 25 – 27, 2019
The Leipzig Networking Days are a vibrant pitching and networking event spread over 3 days. More than 200 international documentary professionals will come together to connect in a friendly and familiar atmosphere at the MDR.
Directing Lab 2020
Deadline: 22/10 - 2019. Event dates: -
Designed for directors who are prepping independent feature films, Film Independent’s Directing Lab is an intensive eight-week program that runs in Los Angeles. Under the guidance of established industry professionals who serve as Creative Advisors, Directing Lab Fellows receive script feedback, discuss their visions, and select short scenes from their screenplays to workshop. Each director then casts actors and rehearses their scenes in the Lab before undertaking a mini-production.

EURODOC fosters the development of documentary film projects in a highly demanding and creative way. The yearly Training Programme is addressed to European Documentary Producers (20% of non-European) who want to enhance the development stage of their projects on the international level and more largely to film professionals involve in the support of Documentary Film Productions. The training is structured in 3 intensive workshop of one-week each, held in 3 different European countries, over one year: Session 1 - March 2020: Development. Session 2 - June 2020: Coproduction, Financing & Packaging. Session 3 - October 2020: Meetings with experts.
East Doc Platform
Deadline: 08/11 - 2019. Event dates: March 07 –13, 2020
The East Doc Platform (EDP) is the largest co-production, funding and distribution platform tailor-made for Central and East European documentaries, every year connecting 120 East European filmmakers and more than 100 key decision makers - producers, broadcasters, distributors and festival programmers from around the world.
