MEDIA call for proposals on digital circulation of films
The EU MEDIA program has launched a call for preparatory actions relating to the circulations of films in the digital era. Deadline for applying is September 6, 2013.
On 12 December 2012, the European Parliament adopted a budget of EUR 2 million for the second year of the Preparatory Action "Circulation of European films in the digital era". The aim of this action is to test the potential for a film's transnational circulation and global audience through the impact of simultaneous or quasisimultaneous release on various distribution platforms in a number of territories.
This Preparatory Action pursues three complementary and inseparable objectives:
- - Improving conditions for the circulation of European films within the European Union;
- - Increasing and expanding the global audience for European films;
- - Informing market players and local authorities of changes likely to improve complementarity between distribution platforms.
The projects qualifying for support will be restricted to European cinematographic works and the distribution thereof within the EU Member States. The projects must also cover a significant number of films and territories.
This size-related parameter is essential if meaningful lessons are to be drawn from the preparatory action and if the latter is to be established as an aid to decision-makers within the public authorities and the European film industry. Hence projects must also include the organisation — at the end of the action — of a public meeting at which the main results of the investigations carried out and the lessons drawn from them will be presented to film professionals and public authorities.
Projects considered for the Preparatory Action must start on 01/01/2014 and must be completed by 30/6/2015. Here you can see the call for proposals at the European Commission's web site.
