Media and Society Presentation at DocSalon 2019
February 10, 2019. 10:00-11:00. Gropius-Bau, 2nd Floor, Berlin, Germany.
As part of DocSalon 2019 at EFM/Berlinale, EDN Director Paul Pauwels and Eline Livémont (University Brussels) will be hosting a session entitled "Media and Society: Reality Check on Documentary Financing in Europe". The presentation is part of EDN's initiative Media & Society — European Documentary in a Changing Media Landscape.
In the course of 2018, the European Documentary Network (EDN) conducted a survey on the state of independent documentary filmmaking in Europe in times of a rapidly changing media landscape.
EDN director Paul Pauwels and Eline Livémont (University Brussels) look back at the exercise and for the first time present the results. Documentary professionals are invited to take part in the discussion, to add remarks and comments and to contribute to the launch of the second stage: creating a policy document towards a economically sustainable and artistically rich independent documentary environment.
The EDN initiative "Media and Society: Documentary in a Changing Media Landscape" is a project aiming to bring together policy and practice in today's audiovidual industry, affirming the independent documentary as a cornerstone of the European media environment. The initiative will serve as a basis for developing steps towards a more sustainable future.
