Dox in Vitro 2019

September 9 - 10, 2019.  Hotel Park Avenue, Piestany, Slovakia

DOX IN VITRO is aimed at young producers and documentary filmmakers who will be introduced to the „real world“ of the European film market and documentary films. The workshop will focus on the development of documentaries under the guidance of experienced tutors and emphasize the role and need of co-productions in today's documentary sector. The submission deadline is 16 August 2019.

DOX IN VITRO (documentary projects in a test tube) is a two-day workshop focusing on the development of documentary projects organized with its main partner, European Documentary Network (EDN). It is designed for up and coming producers and documentary filmmakers from Central Europe. Through presentations by leading international experts the event will spotlight essential considerations for telling stories that can travel. This includes both the creative approaches for telling documentaries and considerations around the European documentary market.

DOX IN VITRO is a unique opportunity to develop your documentary project by working in a small group under guidance from leading international documentary experts. You will receive input and feedback on essential consideration for the further development including the narrative structures, visual style and potential financing opportunities.

ONDREJ STARINSKY
Head of the documentary and educational department at Radio and Television of Slovakia

Ondrej Starinsky studied Film Theory at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (graduated in 2005). Since then he worked in PR, production, programming for several Slovak film festivals (IFF Bratislava, Art Film Fest Košice, Mffk Febiofest, 4 elements film seminar in Banská Štiavnica). Starinsky also worked for the Open Society Foundation (NOS – OSF), where he organized the country-wide “Journalism Award. Since October 2016 he is the head of documentary and educational department at Radio and Television of Slovakia.

 

 





OVE RISHØJ JENSEN

Producer, consultant, Denmark

Ove has been with EDN since 2003 and runs various documentary screenings, workshops, seminars, master classes and also participates in the selection of projects for workshops and pitching sessions. Ove has programmed and/or produced a number of events like The Greek Documentary Lab, New Platforms – New Politics, Twelve for the Future and lately also EDN’s market activities at European Film Market, Sunny Side of the Doc and MIPDOC. In addition he has collaborated with a number of documentary organisations and festivals with tailor making master classes, seminars and workshops for special events and occasions.

 

 





MILA TURAJLIC
Documentary Filmmaker, Founding member of DOK Serbia

Her most recent film The Other Side of Everything was premiered at the Toronto IFF in 2017, and went on to win 20 awards including the prestigious IDFA Award for Best Documentary Film. The film was HBO Europe’s first co-production with Serbia, and had a record-breaking theatrical release in Serbia.

 

 


JESPER OSMUND (to be confirmed)
Screenwriter, Narrative Consultant, Editor, Denmark

Jesper Osmund edited his first feature film in 1991 after years of working as an assistant editor. He then continued editing several feature films, short films, miniseries, commercials until the mid 90ies, where he started to focus more upon documentaries. Today he has edited more than 75 documentaries, many of them internationally awarded. The later years he has focused mainly on international feature length documentaries. He also works as narrative consultant, holds seminars and rough cut- and pitching workshops (EDN, IDFA, IDFAcademy).
