ScreeningRoom & Partners Launch New Grant for Cinematic Short Docs

ScreeningRoom in collaboration with Alex Gibney/Jigsaw Production and Points North Institute recently announced the launch of a new finishing fund, the Follow Focus Grant, which is awarded to a selected cinematic documentary shorts entering into post-production. The grant includes $10.000 as well as mentorship, a one-year ScreeningRoom Pro account and an opportunity for the selected filmmaker to premiere their film at the 2019 Camden International Film Festival in September. The submission deadline is June 1, 2019.

ScreeningRoom is a new web platform created by an award-winning independent filmmaking team, who are motivated to help build sustainability in the independent filmmaking and content-creating community.

Jigsaw Educational Productions founded by Alex Gibney in 1978 set out to make the company an incubator for diverse filmmakers, giving each the opportunity as part of the Jigsaw team to explore and refine their talent in the art of producing documentary films.

Points North Institute builds a unique, interdisciplinary community of filmmakers, artists, journalists, industry leaders and local audiences, forming a creative hub where stories and talent are discovered, collaborations are born, and the future of nonfiction media is shaped. Their programs include the annual Camden International Film Festival and Points North Forum, as well as a growing suite of artist development initiatives.

Any filmmaker or video journalist is welcome to apply for the recently launched Follow Focus Grant — submissions are open until June 1, 2019. There is a fee of $20 for submission and filmmakers will need a ScreeningRoom Basic, Premium or Pro account. Representatives from Points North Institute, ScreeningRoom and Jigsaw Productions will review the submissions and make a final decision in June 2019.

Cinematic, character-driven and visually compelling short documentary films, to be completed by September 1, 2019, with a final length of between 5-40 minutes are accepted for submission.
