Documentaries Selected for Festival de Cannes 2016

This year, the documentary film award L'Œil d'or (The Golden Eye) will be presented for the second time to the winner of the documentary competition of Festival de Cannes 2016. The selection will feature 17 documentary films competing for the prestigious award.

Since 2015, the Golden Eye award is presented annually to the best documentary featured in one of the sections of the Cannes Film Festival. The prize includes an award of €5,000 for the director of the winning film, who will be honoured at an official ceremony in Cannes. The jury for the second edition of the L’OEil d’ Documentary Award will consist of Anne Aghion, Thierry Garrel, Amir Labaki, Natacha Régnier and Gianfranco Rosi (as its president). Among the selected films is The Cinema Travelers by Shirley Abraham and Amit Madheshiya (India). The project started its successful development at DocEdge in Kolkata, a workshop that provided participants with extensive EDN guidance and tutoring.

EDN Activities in Cannes

During the Cannes Film Festival and Marché du Film, the European Documentary Network will be organizing two activities:


EDN Co-Production Consultations at Marché du Film 2016

EDN will be part of the Doc Corner at Marché du Film in Cannes and provide consultations on documentary co-production opportunities. The two EDN staff members present during the market will be EDN Network & Partnerships Manager Cecilie Bolvinkel and EDN Film & Media Consultant Ove Rishøj Jensen. Individual meetings of 30 minutes duration can be booked onsite. Click here for more details.


EDN Networking Dinner at Cannes/Marché du Film 2016

All EDN members are invited to participate in the EDN Networking dinner in Cannes. Please sign up no later than Wednesday, May 11 at noon. The intention is to have an informal dinner where you can meet other EDN members, network and share a good meal together. Click here for more details.

About L'Œil d'or (The Golden Eye) Documentary Award

The L'Œil d'or was initiated by the Civil Society of Multimedia Authors (SCAM - Société Civile des Auteurs Multimédia) and its President Julie Bertuccelli, the prize is awarded in partnership with the Institut national de l'audiovisuel (INA) and with the support of Cannes Film Festival.
