One World - Romania
Submission deadline: 1/11 – 2018. Festival: March 15 –24, 2019
One World Romania is the only documentary festival in Bucharest and the only one dedicated to human rights in Romania. First, it was an offspring of the One World in Prague, initiated by the Czech Centre Bucharest. Gradually the selection and organization became autonomous. In 2009 the organizers of the festival started the One World Romania Association and it annually organizes the One World Romania International Human Rights & Documentary Film Festival. Moreover, all year-round the association takes care of the educational programme One World Romania at School, the alternative distribution programme KineDok, a DVD collection and it mediates the relationship between filmmakers and the civil society in order to develop new projects.
Berlinale - International Film Festival Berlin
Submission deadline: 15/11 – 2018. Festival: February 1 –17, 2019
Berlin International Film Festival shows about 400 films per year, mostly international or European premieres. Films of every genre, length and format find their place in the various sections: great international cinema in the Competition, independent and art house in Panorama, films for young audiences in Generation, new discoveries and promising talents from the German film scene in Perspektive Deutsches Kino, avant garde, experimental and unfamiliar cinematography in the Forum and Forum Expanded, and an exploration of cinematic possibilities in Berlinale Shorts.
The Berlin International Film Festival is a source of film programmes, workshops, panel discussions, to name a few it includes Berlinale Co-Production Market, European Film Market, Berlinale Talents and The World Cinema Fund (WCF).
ZagrebDox International Documentary Film Festival
Submission deadline: 15/11 – 2018. Festival: February 24 – March 3, 2019
ZagrebDox is an international documentary film festival taking place in Zagreb. Launched in 2005, the festival is intended to provide audiences and experts insight into recent documentary films, stimulate national documentary production and boost international and regional cooperation in co-productions.The Competition Program consists of International Competition and Regional Competition. The International Competition includes films from all over the world, except those competing in the Regional Competition. The festival is intended for the films from Albania, Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Hungary, Serbia, Slovenia and Romania. Documentary films of all running times, topics, styles and production technologies can be submitted.

DocsBarcelona - International Documentary Film Festival
Submission deadline: 26/11 – 2018. Festival: May 15 – 26, 2019
DocsBarcelona has twenty one editions behind it, DocsBarcelona is a festival specialized in the documentary genre that is composed of three competitive Official sections: Panorama, Latitude and What The Doc!, as well as several sections out of competition and master classes. All the films that make up the different sections are selected by an international programming committee. It has been an international meeting place for the documentary field for the past 10 years. A marketplace for the industry and a point of encounter for the public, where viewers come into contact with films and directors.
Thessaloniki Documentary Festival
Submission deadline: 30/11 – 2018. Festival: March 1 – 10, 2019
The TDF is carried out every March in Thessaloniki since its inception in 1999. Through tributes and retrospectives, the TDF focuses on filmmakers internationally renowned for their contribution to the documentary genre. The festival also has the agora doc market and the crossroads co-production forum. The market’s primary goal is to sell the rights of documentaries to TV channels, distribution to film theatres and promotion to other Festivals. The Doc Market functions mainly as a bridge, connecting the cinematic product to the powerful medium of television.
