Join the Istanbul Express to explore multilingualism across Europe
NISI MASA, the network organization for young European film professionals, has announced its biggest filmmaking workshop of 2010 entitled Istanbul Express. It is happening this autumn in 18 countries via the railways of Europe with Istanbul as a final destination. Deadline for applications is July 16.

Istanbul Express aims to investigate the common issues about languages starting from three European capitals, passing through three other, and finally arriving Istanbul, the 2010 European Capital of Culture.
By traveling through Europe by train the project aims to explore the question of multilingualism through film, by giving young people, between 18-30, free range to discover this New Europe and how it speaks.
On the 20th of September the 45 participants will meet in three European cities: Tallinn, San Sebastián and Turin. Dividing into groups of three people, meaning one director, one cinematographer and one sound engineer, they will make 15 short documentaries on the way to Istanbul.
After spending some days at the starting city by shootings and attending the local events organized in the frame of the workshop; the participants will start the journey. The three trains will finally arrive in Istanbul on the 10th of October. There, the filmmakers will edit their films and attend a week-long series of events, screenings, panels, meetings, parties. The first screening of the films will be made in Istanbul on the 15th of October.
There will be award-winning documentary filmmakers in each train as tutors. They are already experienced in making films in different cities, dealing with multilingualism, different ways of expression and European debates:

• Boris Mitic, director of Goodbye, How Are You? (Serbia, On the Turin-Istanbul Train)
In each train, there will be a head of production who is experienced in film production, could find technical solutions when necessary, assisting the tutors in monitoring the films and the crews. In addition to the tutor and the head of production, there will be a coordinator in each train. The coordinator will arrange the accommodation, food; contacting with NISI MASA organizations and coordinating the events in the stopover cities.
