Balkan Documentary Center Launches New Cultural Heritage Pitching Forum

06.09.2018

In October this year, the Balkan Documentary Center (BDC) will be launching a new pitching forum focusing on the filmic documentation of intangible cultural heritage (ICH). The forum entitled "Filming ICH" is organized in collaboration with UNESCO and The International Festival of Ethnological Film, Belgrade. Documentary filmmakers from south-east Europe are welcome to submit their projects until 15 September 2018.

The aim of Filming ICH is to present and support documentary projects dealing with topics related to intangible cultural heritage. The participants can be filmmakers, ethnologists or anthropologists, working on ICH – related documentary films, which can be at any stage of production .

Over the course of two days, the selected participants will have the chance to work with film industry professionals on developing their projects. The results will be presented to an international jury with the best ones being awarded the honorary plaque of the "Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe". The winning projects will further be eligible for participation in upcoming training programmes of the Balkan Documentary Center. The initiative will foster the importance of documentaries as a modern tool for safeguarding ICH, promoting its function and transmission in society, and re-inventing traditions, customs, and rituals.

The overall aim is to build a forum, where filmmakers and ICH experts can work together to create and promote film projects, exploring the universe of intangible cultural heritage. The event is part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage.

The forum will take place from 9 - 11 October in Belgrade, Serbia, within the framework of the International Festival of Ethnological Film. Participating projects will need to focus on the region of South-Eastern Europe. For more information about the pitching forum incl. eligible countries and how to submit, please visit the BDC website.
