Good Pitch Europe 2016 & Impact Producers Lab: Call for Entries
The next edition of Good Pitch Europe will take place in May 2016 in Stockholm, Sweden. BRITDOC is calling European filmmakers working on social and environmental justice films to submit their projects until 1 December 2015.
Good Pitch brings together outstanding documentary filmmakers with foundations, NGOs, campaigners, philanthropists, policymakers, brands and media around leading social and environmental issues – to forge coalitions and campaigns that are good for all these partners, good for films and good for society. A group of European filmmaking teams will pitch their documentary projects and associated impact campaign with the aim of creating a unique coalition around each film to accelerate its impact and influence.
Good Pitch is looking for films which tackle a national or global issue, with something important to show us about the world or ourselves. Films of any style are welcomed - personal, observational, essays, presenter-led, verité. Projects can be at any stage from early production to completion and even early festival circuit (although rough cut stage is ideal), and they should be 60+ minutes in length (although we welcome plans to make shorter versions).
Filmmakers applying for Good Pitch should already have outreach or audience engagement ambitions for their film. Impact campaigns can take any form, with any ultimate goal – it could seek to effect behavioural change, policy change and/or engage with the issues raised in new and interesting ways.
If selected, film pitch teams must be available to be in Finland from 13-16 January 2016 for the Impact Producers Lab (see further below) and part 1 of the Campaign Development Workshop. Filmmakers must also be available in May 2016 (dates tbc) in Stockholm, Sweden for part 2 of the workshop, pre-strategic meetings as well as the pitch day itself.
There is no fee for applying or for taking part. In order to apply, please visit the Good Pitch website. Successful applicants will be informed by 8 December 2015. For further information on what is and what isn’t a Good Pitch film and the opportunities the programme provides, take a look here.
Impact Producers Lab in Finland
As part of the Good Pitch Europe programme, BRITDOC will also be organizing the Impact Producers Lab in Hämeenlinna, Finland from 13-16 January 2015.
Films have producers to manage the creative and financial process from script to screen. But where a filmmaker aspires to create positive social or environmental impact with their project, they may now need a specialised ‘impact producer’ to take their film from completion to impact. Both in the US and Europe more funds are now available to pay for outreach and engagement, in order to ensure films reach and impact their target audiences. However, there is a shortage of professionals to handle this work.
BRITDOC aims to train up this new generation of impact producers and will select eight individuals from across Europe who are either doing this work, or ready to step into this role. The eight professionals will attend the January 2016 Impact Producers Lab in Finland, which will be run under the Good Pitch programme.
The Impact Producers Lab will cover topics like impact strategy, planning, budgeting, fundraising, execution and evaluation. In order to apply, applicants will have to fill out a short application form, upload their CV and a short film presenting themselves and their motivation to join the programme. In order to apply, please visit this link. If selected, participants of the Impact Producers Lab will get free accommodation and catering but will have to pay for their transportation to the workshop.
